My Halloween greetings come a day late, but they'll have to do since I want to share this years pumpkins anyway. Nils and I stuck to our strengths and worked on both of them together. Nils drew, and I carved (not that I consider pumpkin carving one of my "strengths", but I'm pretty good with fiddly details). As I hollowed out a couple pumpkins, Nils went to work drawing up a few furry friends to trace onto our pumpkins- Qwerty, our cat, and a corgi (because I have a wee obsession with the wee dogs.)
Nils drew these guys so I could carve them. Although he managed to simplify the shapes a whole lot, I still had my work cut out for me. (Heh.. cut out for me. I'm hilarious.)
I traced the images right off the laptop screen (high tech) and shaded the areas to cut out. I taped the paper onto the pumpkin and poked holes along the outlines. From there I just cut out the shapes, careful not to put too much pressure on the delicate parts, and put them outside to light up our front door.
Here they are lined up with Q's squid! I'll have to follow her lead and try out some shading like that next year.
This year we celebrated by throwing an All Hallows Eve Eve party. I'll have to collect some of the recipes that people made because the potluck dinner was amazing. Vegetable orzo, pumpkin sage gnocchi, and apple squash pizza, among many other delicious creations. I hope you all had a Happy Halloween!
